Alice is the first necromancer in nearly two hundred years, and not by choice. She died for three minutes in a car crash and woke up seeing ghosts. The story is set in Northumberland, in the north of England. The area is famous for Alnwick Castle, Bamburgh on the coast, and the tiny island of Lindisfarne with a causeway that floods twice a day, cutting off all access to the mainland. The whole region spent about a thousand years being fought over and the ruins are everywhere. Roman forts, border fortresses, a monastery that Vikings sacked so thoroughly it made the history books...and let's not forget to mention the Wars of the Roses. If a witchy death cult was going to hide somewhere, this is the perfect place.
There's also heated rivalry between the two mentors assigned to teach Alice magic. Callum and Ronan...both different as night and day. One easy going earth witch, and a snooty aristocrat and heir to a Great House. All kinds of sparks are going to fly with these two hanging about...
